Medical and Behavioural Conditions

If your child has any medical or behavioural conditions that may impact on the running of a coaching session, the coaching coordinator, Liam Shanahan must be informed.

Tournament Squad Coaching

Tournament squad coaching is for more advanced juniors who are participating in tennis opens. Regular coaching sessions are for one hour, whereas tournament squad sessions are for one and a half hours. The groups tend to be smaller and juniors get more attention.

Junior Semi-Private or Private Coaching

Private one-to-one, or one-to-two junior coaching can be arranged with the coaches during off-peak times. The coaches details are available on the Coaches  page. It is essential that a parent or guardian is present throughout the coaching session.

Coaches: All coaches employed by KBTC are fully qualified, affiliated to Tennis Ireland, have all been garda vetted and have completed child protection courses.

If you have any questions about coaching, please contact the coaching co-ordinator, Liam Shanahan, at [email protected].

General Information about Junior Coaching

Junior coaching caters for ages 6-18 years and the terms are usually spring, summer and autumn and can range from 6-8 weeks in duration.  Juniors are put into groups of 8 (usually) and the groups are matched by age and ability. Junior coaching takes place on Saturdays for beginners and improvers and on Monday and Tuesday afternoons for intermediate and advanced players.

The benefits of playing the game from an early age are immense both from a physical and psychological aspect. Once the game is learnt and learnt correctly it is a skill that can be taken with them through life. Our coaching program focuses on introducing the game at an early age in a positive and technically sound manner.

This year’s coaching program will cover every aspect of the game, primarily technical, tactical and physical. We will work on your child’s agility, balance, co-ordination and speed and build a sound foundation on which to build the complete game.

Our junior programme works with all levels from our squad players to our Tennis 10s juniors. At Killaloe/Ballina Tennis club we ensure that players aged 10 and under do not train or play competition with a regular yellow ball on a full court, but instead train and compete with a red, orange or green balls on the appropriate court. This will help players develop the most efficient technique and implement advanced tactics.
