Winter League Report – ROUND 4

Gators, Bats, Cobras and Hawks all remain at the top of their respective sections. We are now past the halfway stage of the Winter League so teams will not want to leave it too late before making their move! The aim is to get into the top four in order to get a place in the playoffs.
In Section A, the Gators have opened up a ten-point lead over their nearest rival. Second-placed Owls face the Gators in Round 5 so all eyes will be on this contest! Are the Gators real leaders or just pretenders?
In Section B, the Bats have also extended their advantage. The Dolphins (Captain Aileen Aherne), meanwhile, took all 22 points against the Hornets thus leaping (as dolphins do) from 6th place to 2nd while the Hornets fell from 2nd to 6th. One good win or a bad loss can change things dramatically! The Bats lead by seven points.
In Section C, the Cobras continued with their perfect record. They face the second-placed Rhinos in Round 5 so we’ll see if the Rhinos, led by Helen Mahoney, can dent their confidence. The rest of the teams in Section C all have a chance to qualify for the playoffs. As veterans of the Winter League can attest, once your in, anything can happen!
In Section D, the Hawks dropped their first points to the second-placed Bears. More significantly, they also lost their inspirational captain Shane O’Meara to a ruptured Achilles. He will see no more action in this year’s Winter League and we wish him a speedy recovery. Things have tightened up for the teams below the top two and as in Section C, any team making a late run can reach the playoffs.
