Ulla Winter League 2022-2023 Round 3 Report

There is so much movement of places in the league tables of this Winter League! In Sections A, B and C only four of the 24 teams have stayed in the same league position in Round 3 as they had in Round 2. Ups and downs were the order of the day! It was a different story in Section D where all the teams remained in the same position except Team Barty swapping their third place with first place Team Henman.
Section A is so tight! Only four points separate the top six teams and ten points all eight teams.
Team Billie Jean led by Captain Brian Commins is at the summit with Marie Floyd’s Team Alcaraz just a point behind. Needless to say their match-up in Round 4 will be an interesting one! The two teams tied for third also confront each other after the New Year: Team Venus v. Team Federer.
In Section B Team Sampras (Captain Dermot Nash) and Team Evert (Captain Kathy Anning) each scored the maximum 22 points to catapult them up to the top two places.
In Section C Team Graf led by captain Liz Cooper has held their place at the top but face a difficult encounter in Round 4 when they play third-placed Team Murray led by Captain Paul Aplin.
Section D has the only Winter League team with full points. Team Isner led by Mariel Hiney have had a bye and two 22-point victories but they have a tough assignment in Round 4 when they face second-placed Team Swiatek captained by Simon Brown.
Round 3 fact: Seven teams scored the maximum 22 points.
